CIA knew about paramilitary links

So my first post a not so personal but pretty interesting. Basically the national security archive has published documents that reveal the fact that the CIA knew that the Colombian Armed Forces were committing extrajudicial killings (basically murdering people and then dressing them up as guerrillas and presenting them as armed combatants killed in combat) as early as 1994. But yet the US went ahead and helped fund the Colombian Armed forces. Check out the full story here.

Jacob,
This is a huge revelation. I was wondering if you could explain your understanding of the civil war in Columbia now that you have been in the region for close to a year. The FARC originally formed as an armed revolutionary anti-capitalist movement, no? How would you describe them today? How has the media, in collaboration with the Columbian and US governments distorted the goals and actions of the FARC? How has the FARC changed over the years and what mistakes have they made in their revolutionary campaign? I would love to hear your perspective.

abrazos,
Mark
